A question worth asking
Wasn’t sermorelin approved before?
Yes, there is a real history here. The useful question is how much that history tells you about a product offered now.
The former medicine
Geref, a brand of sermorelin, had approvals for a hormone test and growth failure in children with a growth hormone shortage.
A product offered now
Before a product can be approved, it undergoes review at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the particular use proposed.
As of September 28, 2026, the US has no marketed sermorelin product with FDA approval.
What happened to Geref?
At the maker’s request, the FDA withdrew the approvals for Geref on June 18, 2009.
The FDA found in 2013 that Geref stopped being sold for reasons other than safety problems or failure to work.
That finding concerns the old product; it is no endorsement of a preparation offered today.
What was the approval for?
The FDA has never approved sermorelin for treating adults, as of September 28, 2026.
Ask which use an advert is referring to when it mentions approval. Then ask what evidence supports the use being discussed with you.
